The site location at Parker Street was chosen because the road reserve is a large open site and there is more opportunity to conceal the battery once installed. Our first regional community battery
We’re helping our customers in Maldon share their renewable energy and contribute to a clean energy future.
Powercor has begun planning the installation of a ground-mounted 90kW/270kWh battery in Maldon, with the support of a Federal Government grant under the Community Batteries for Household Solar Program.
This project is being delivered in collaboration with the Commonwealth Government and DJAARA, formally the Dja Dja Wurrung Clans Aboriginal Corporation, along with support from Mount Alexander Shire Council and our community stakeholders.
Once completed the Maldon Community Battery will soak up excess solar from nearby rooftops and share the benefits of cheap, clean, and local renewable energy with nearby customers.
An improved design
The Maldon Community Battery will be identical to the Tarneit Community Battery, but with the latest upgrades designed to improve its energy efficiency.
The ground-mounted community battery is about the size of a small car. Each unit is approximately 2.4m high, 0.7m wide and 1.1m deep. All the components are housed in one unit. A new overhead cable connecting the battery to the nearest substation will also be installed.
The battery is expected to have a lifespan of approximately 10 years. After that, Powercor will either replace, repurpose, or recycle the unit in line with the manufacturer’s end-of-life plan.
