Powercor has installed hundreds of insulator guards and visual warning devices on power poles and lines across the Goulburn Valley to address a series of power outages in fruit growing areas in recent months.
25 March: listen to interview with ABC Shepparton on bat strikes in the region
Large colonies of bats have been impacting the network mostly in and around the Tatura and Cobram areas, but also the Mooroopna and Numurkah areas.
They’ve caused several flashovers, damaging insulators and causing momentary and sustained outages.
This has been among the worst seasons for bat strikes on our network in decades.
Our crews have also set up a pulsing light in an orchard near Tatura to further deter nearby colonies.
We appreciate these outages have been frustrating and we want to thank customers for their patience.
We will continue to monitor performance of the network in these areas and will adjust our response as needed.
